This morning I received a message on Facebook from one of the groups I’m a member of. It featured the promotional video (click here to view it) for Alexi Delano’s remix of ‘Espiritu’ as the tune of the week, and immediately upon hearing it; I fell in love. I didn’t realize before how big minimal tribal has been getting, to the point where we can almost label it mainstream now. Don’t you think it sounds rather weird putting ‘minimal’ and ‘mainstream’ in the same sentence? Fortunately, there are plenty of talented deejays and producers out there like the ones featured today who will keep on making quality records and for that I salute them. Keep on bringing the fire, boys!

How is everyone doing? Hope your week is going well! Here at ‘Feeling MNML’ we decided to reach out to one of the busiest and most respected veterans out there who helped establish the word ‘techno’, and has revolutionized the genre in doing so. Of course, we are talking about none other than Mr. Acquaviva. Here is how it went down…

FM: Walking down the memory lane here for a second, at which point in your life did you realize you were going to make it in the music industry? Did you think you would have as big of an impact as you did?

JA: the first and real reality check was when i gradutated universtiy end of the 80’s.  i was djing at an already successful local/national level, but while going to school.  the international scene was just starting to blow up and i had to commit full time to something

you always hope for the best …there is no template for success

FM: There are lot of young producers, deejays and label owners out there today with big dreams. What do you think is the X factor which determines whether they fail or succeed? How would you say it differentiates today from the time when you were starting out? Is it easier or tougher to succeed today?

JA: the scene is bigger and more competitve than ever.  so more people compete for success at a high level.  it is about determination as well as organization

FM: In your opinion, how has the techno genre progressed over the years? What do you think the future holds for its sound?

JA: for the better.  as long as it looks forward it will be fine

FM: Give us one rare fact about you that that fans might not know.

JA: i was born in italy and am european…most people still dont realize

FM: What is your favorite track that you produced (in your entire career), and also one that you remixed? Why?

JA: cant say…that is like asking me my favorite child

FM: Who are some of the up-and-coming producers that you’re keeping an eye on?

JA: i am a huge fan and biased to my defintive recordings artists…with OLIVIER GIACOMOTTO at the top of the list.  most people have a good idea about him now…but he has only scratched the surface.  look our for jan van lier, matt herdman and kid dub as

FM: What were some of your dreams growing up, other than music-related ones?

JA: to travel the world…and it all dove tailed quite nicely with the dj’ing

FM: Your favorite place that you’ve deejayed so far, and most memorable moment?

JA: too many.  i have done thousands of internationl gigs

FM: If you could remix one classic track outside of techno and house music, what would it be and why?

JA: i personallly dont like remixing classics…they are classics for a reason…

and lastly…

FM: What can we expect from you in the future? Any big projects or collaborations coming up?

JA: same old from me…just working every year with a few key producers and making fun music for the clubs…

Big ‘Thank-You’ to Mr. Acquaviva for taking the time to answer these, good luck in your future projects. Cheers!

In case you missed it or didn’t have a chance to check it out yet, Dubifre released his Beatport’s Top 10 over the weekend. This chart is packed with massive tunes, and if you’re searching for some new material to download, look no further. Lots of banging techno and minimal releases are in there, highlighted by his own Mega remix of Paul Ritch’s ’Split The Line’ (Speaking of whom, don’t forget to support his newest ‘Solarium’ addition; It is fantastic), which I have featured on my upcoming radio broadcast to be aired on Wednesday, April 29th. More info to follow shortly, stay tuned…

“ITS Caracas”, a track so powerful, it could glide out of an album sleeve by itself, yet is better accompanied with its remix counterpart. Paradigma founder, Marc Marzenit and London-Berlin techno wünderkind, Gavin Herlihy, collaborate in the ying and yang of EP releases. Side A is a raw introduction to propeller engines weaving in and out of wild jungle beats, simultaneously taking you on a journey through trippy sounds and psychedelic notions. Marc lays it out masculine, hot and aggressively, creating a peek-like riding experience until the explosive end. On the flip side, “ITS Caracas (Gavin Herlihy Remix)” is contrasted by softer minimal beats as a subtle tranquillity pulls the propeller sounds and psychedelic layers towards the back of the track filling the atmosphere with airy grooves and alleviation. As a producer and a live artist, Marc Marzenit draws his inspiration from a wide array of musical influences ranging anywhere from Bach and Beethoven to Fatboy Slim and Massive Attack. His greatest musical achievements are marked by his impregnation of sense and sensibility to muscular techno as well as being precocious in his electronic work – a personal and unique style, positively setting him on the outside quarters of other talented techs. His production yin, music journalist and artist, Gavin Herlihy, is just as mighty with the decks as he is with the pen. His strongest points are the ongoing productions with continual support from today’s biggest names in labels, producers and artists from the likes of Get Physical, Moodmusic, Luciano, DJ Hell, Paul Oakenfold, Laurent Garnier and many more. Remixed or original, ITS Caracas, skilfully completes the wrap. Enjoy!

timewarp2009

This blog has been getting lots of hits lately because people searched ‘Time Warp 2009 sets’ and ended up at ‘Feeling Mnml’. This happened ’cause I tagged Sven Vath post from few days ago with ‘Time’, ‘Warp’, ‘2009′, ’set’,  and everyone assumed I had more of them posted here. So to fix that error and make up to those who accidentaly logged on, I will go ahead and link you to the rest of the recorded sets which you may download, including artists such as Blast SL, Chris Liebing, Monika Kruse, Nekes, Nick Curly, Sasch BBC, Steffen Baumann, Sven Vath & The Disco Boys. Click on the link below to be redirected to another website where you can download all of these. ;)

Here is one release that caught my attention in the past couple weeks. Production comes from a fine duo by the names of Rino Cerrone and Flavio Diaz. There are 3 tracks in this EP, and they are all very unique in their respective way. Melodic techno–bit less abstract than say, Reboot’s work–touched up with repetitiveness, driven by a bit of funk. Since the material is still fairly new, I will post the link to the previews on Beatport, which can be found by clicking below. As far as my personal updates go, I am currently working on my next gig, and also doing a mix for 5 Year Anniversary of Forward Music which will be broadcasted live online on Wednesday, April 29th! Very excited about that one, more info to come on how you can tune in soon. Stay tuned friends!

All you Sven Vath fans out there ready for a double dose of some dope sh!t? First up is his recorded live set from Time Warp 2009, which is insane techno that only ‘Hammer’ is known for delivering show after show! I was listening to it as I was designing this desktop today, and it inspired me to involve something colorful, abstract, and which looks different than my previous works, yet to commemorate Time Warp for 15 years of success all in one. Hope you folks dig it! Lots more things coming for you exclusively at ‘Feeling MNML’, stay tuned… :)

karotte

One of Germany’s finest exports, Dj Karotte is back at it again, this time with his spanking new mix of tech(no) and deep house. I simply can’t get enough of the kinda vibe delivered in this set. Very groovy, makes you wanna move, then go nuts, then chill out again and so forth. Wonderful rollercoaster transitions that leave you itching for more if you’re into this style. I dig it very much so and recommend to everyone to give it a listen. I have some new tracks that will be posted in next few days, along with a fresh desktop design, so there’s few things to look forward to!
