sandervandoorn-v2

If there is one thing I admire the most about being a deejay, it’s the ability to cross different genres of music and be versatile. One person who I can gladly say I admire for this kind of effort is Sander Van Doorn. While many performers try to follow a signature pattern in their sets, deejays who utilize the same approach as SVD are kind of like a box of chocolates; you never know what you’re going to get (thanks for the quote, Forrest). I was first introduced to Sander via monster-hit ’Grasshopper‘, then followed with his trancy remix of ‘S.O.S. (Message in a Bottle)‘, (insert all bunch of other wicked productions in here) and last but not least, his heavy minimal-techno influence in Sia’s rework of ‘The Girl You Lost To Cocaine‘. Needless to say, his productions are superb and his name globally recongized, it was indeed my pleasure to catch up with Sander himself and ask him a few questions for my blog:

FM: You visited ‘Boom Boom Room’ (Windsor, Ontario) many times, including the New Years Eve event you had last year. What do you think about Windsor’s music scene and our city in general?

SVD: The thing I noticed most about Windsor’s scene is the amount of loyal party people that have created such a nice community. Every time I play there I come across the same people that are into my music and up for having a chat after my set. That combined with a relaxed attitude throughout the city makes it one of my favorite spots to play.

FM: I’ve had the pleasure of seeing you perform live on multiple occasions, and can attest the fact that a smile never leaves your face. You always seem to welcome the interaction with fans during your shows and keeping everyone happy. How does a deejay of your statute keep himself down to earth like that?

SVD: Well the fact that I’m smiling a lot is simply because I love what I’m doing. I definitely feel privileged that I’m able to perform my passion and that’s something I don’t take for granted and keeps both feet firmly on the ground.

FM: What is your biggest accomplishment you achieved over the years? I know there are many, but pick one that makes you proud the most…

SVD: If I were to pick one very special event that would be playing mainstage this year at Dance Valley (Holland) because I can remember going to that festival a few years ago as clubber fantasizing about playing mainstage once and this year it actually happened.

FM: When taking time off working with music and doing gigs, what are some of your favorite past-time activities?

SVD: Since music is kind of non stop 24/7 I don’t really get to do much in between. I usually end up on the couch watching a good movie.

FM: What can we expect from you in the future? Any big projects or collaborations?

SVD: I’ve got a lot planned out for 2009 including a new concept we’re working on right now as well as a few interesting projects on production front. I reckon it’s going to be a rather good year!

Thank you Sander for taking time out of your busy schedule, and hope you enjoy the rest of your ‘Supernatural’ tour! See you soon. :)

I’m certain most of you have seen the movie ‘Borat’ by now, so you should recongize the vocal sample which Dutch producers, Unders & Drrie have borrowed the inspiration from. This track is also last song on DJ Neno’s ‘Tryst’ mix which I posted couple of days ago, as I have received numerous e-mails asking me to identify the track. It’s a very heavy tech-house tune without a doubt. Those of you of Balkan descend who have not seen the movie ‘Borat‘ will find this track rather familiar as it uses Goran Bregovic’s ‘Elderezi, Elderezi’ (Djurdjevdan) lyrics throughout it.

Unders & Drrie – 3 Days In Kazachstan (Original Mix)

Until few months ago, I could not burn myself a copy of a live DJ set to listen to. I mean, who would want to sit for 30 or 40 minutes to hear a track they enjoy the most (as in most cases, sets aren’t cut up so there is no fast-forwarding)? Today, live DJ sets are all I listen to in my car or while I’m on the computer. Recordings, such as the one I’m posting here today, is the reason why I switched over from listening to individual tracks. Track after track of pure techno heat. Not one weak song. And besides, you really get to feel deejay’s groove. Beware tho, Neno’s style is infectious and will draw you in. I can guarantee half of you will Google another set of his to download and it will be hard to find unless you join his Facebook group. Enjoy!

I don’t know if there’s a better way to make a comeback than by posting an absolute techno bomb which many of you may not even know about! Anthony Attalla is one of those deejays who made huge impact in 2008. To be as simple as I can be; 2008 was his year. Gigs all over the globe, getting constant praise and new fans, all while dippin’ his hand into production side of business and coming out with such tremendous hits is just noteworthy. ‘Nut Collecta’ was released only few days ago and is already getting huge buzz from top names. His path is set, his mission even clearer: Anthony is one of the artists to look out for in years to come. Unfortunately I will not post his track for free download as it is brand new, so please support him and purchase it on Beatport. Also, for any of you from Miami area, check out ‘Groove Cruise’ event that goes on in late January. Him, alongside deadmau5 and many others will take over a ship for three days of non-stop partying and dirty fucking beats. I am making arrangments to make it there myself, so don’t hesistate and look into it before it sells out! Until tomorrow, folks… :)

Wanted to give you guys heads up, I am starting this blog back up extremly soon. I won’t set a date in case I post a day too early or day after, but it is very, very soon. I have 2 new desktops completed, brand new interview with one of my favorite producers, and tons of new tracks! The reason why I was inactive is because I was having a lot of personal issues going on and didn’t feel motivated to update, it was probably last thing on my mind. Family always comes first to me in life, and I will never change that. Thank you all for understanding and being patient with me. Remember… very, very soon. Thank you.
