Most obvious thing which I have noticed since I started doing this blog is the outbreak of German producers who are taking over the minimal techno scene. In my opinion, I would say Germany and Italy are the biggest contributors to this genre. Lutzenkirchen is one of the talented lads who keeps delivering track after track that cement his reputation as the up-and-comer. With only couple short years in the music biz, he has displayed a versatile knack for all things techno. We can’t wait to hear more from him, as I hope you enjoy the track posted below!

I have always admired newcomers to the scene who break-out with experimental sound. Not only is it more difficult to set a trend without any big reputation, but also interesting to witness a variety of genres crossing the boundaries of music. Buelent Guerler, a.k.a. Butch is one of these artists whose middle name could very well be ‘unique’. If you ever wondered what would minimal sound, mixed with neo-trance and techno, simply have a listen to the track posted below. Trust me, you won’t be dissapointed.
It is time for another minimalistic therapy session, and this time we are featuring none other than the Polish wonder Magda(!) for your viewing pleasure. Grande; veteran in the scene with skills that will leave many in awe, and a handful of success with productions truly convey the image we have of her many accomplishments. She is one of a kind when it comes to the minimal scene, and we wish her nothing but the best for many years more to come.
I promised some big things this week, and being a man of my word that I am, I’m all about keeping my promise. Yesterday I hit you guys with Chris Lake interview (bet you didn’t see that one coming!), and today I have this brand new, unreleased - minimal techno OWNAGE courtesy of yours truly – Luciano and Richie Hawtin. I’ve had this track for quite some time now but couldn’t post it due to legal issues. Now as it started making rounds on various websites and mixes, I felt obliged to give my loyal readers a little gift. How to describe this… a really nasty late-night, peak of the hour beauty, with some nasty vocals and a beat to match that will have you screaming for more! Still not satisfied? Be on the lookout for new wallpaper design coming later this week… I told you, things are only about to get better and better.
Zoran Dakovic of ‘Feeling MNML’ had a chance to catch up with Chris Lake over the weekend – the man behind Rising Music record label and numerous smash hits including his most famous one; ‘Changes‘ – and we used the opportunity to ask him a few questions:
FM: Greetings Chris! First off, let me congratulate you for being the very first interviewee for ‘Feeling MNML’ blog! Glad to have you!
CHRIS: Thank you very much for having me! …And for that matter, adding our Rising Music blog to your list – I’m glad you like our stuff.
FM: You’re welcome!
Let’s start, shall we… At which point in your life did you realize that music is something you could be successful at, and make a career out of it?
CHRIS: Well, I guess that depends on how you look at it. I was DJing up in Scotland in my teens, and earning money then, but soon after that I buried my head in some serious production. When your early tracks and remixes are getting played by the likes of Sasha, Digweed and Sander Kleinberg, you know you’re doing something right. From then on that was it, music became my life and when “Changes” landed things really heated up. Here we are three years on, and things couldn’t be better.
FM: Who were your influences (international and local) growing up? Were you always into the dance/house music scene?
CHRIS: Hmm… For me, influences come from everything that is good and bad in day to day life…they are timeless – a bit deep, but that’s how I feel. In terms of my interest in electronic music – yes, that started from a very early age.
FM: Who are some of your current influences? Who does Chris Lake listen to in his mp3 player as he travels from gig to gig?
CHRIS: That’s a good one, the iPod. I’m a big fan of the ambient chilled out artists; Air would have to be at the top of that list, a perfect cure for late nights and hectic airports!
FM: Your first big-break came by (bootleg) remixing various artists (The Prodigy, Leftfield, Eurythmics). How would you say your sound progressed over the years to where it is today? How would you describe your current sound?
CHRIS: Anyone who knows me or my work will tell you that I haven’t, and never will conform to a sound. From deep rolling groves to some of the disgustingly noisy stuff I get up to with Deadmau5, and back again; prog, trance, straight up house, a touch of minimal – it’s all great. That’s one of the things I love about this industry, there’s so much variety to work with.
FM: What can we expect from you in future? Any big projects coming up you (and your label) would like to mentione?
CHRIS: Hell yeh! I’ve got a “Chris Lake Remixed” E.P coming out very soon with Rene Amesz & Adam Shaw mixes of ‘Deadline’, the track I featured on my Essential Mix last year, a Rudi Stalker version of ‘Release‘ and Mastiksoul’s reworking of ‘Only One’.
Shortly after that I’ll be releasing “If you knew” feat. Nastala, my follow up to “Changes“. I can’t tell you how excited that makes me… we finished filming the video in August – it’s all come together nicely, and that’s just 2008. Come WMC ‘09, I’ll be launching my first album… busy times are ahead my friend!
FM: …and one last thing, since it’s a “feeling mnml” after all. Are you into minimal and/or minimal techno scene? Any particular DJs from that genre you enjoy listening to?
CHRIS: Of course, it is a hard to scene to ignore at the moment. For me, Minimal when done right is one of the best genres out there. It’s a genre that forces you to focus on groove and strong sounds and if you are a producer, you can only ever have respect for people that get the formula right.
We would like to thank Chris Lake for taking the time out of his busy schedule to answer our questions, and wish him the best of luck on his upcoming gigs! Also big thank you to Seb Mysko who helped put this together! His blog can be found by clicking here.
Don’t forget to check out Rising Music’s blog which is now a part of our Blogroll, there’s lots of good stuff to read and quite a few good points made regarding the current state of music industry.

Gel Abril’s “Spells Of Yoruba” is one of those songs that didn’t make a big splash upon it’s release. It never got big, it was never the most talked about/hyped tune or anything like that. Only the most dedicated of fans and hardcore music lovers seemed to get a hold of this techno gem. I have been following this Israeli producer for a minute now, and I have to admit his work is remarkable: catchy and unique. This sort of repetitive techno reminds me of something Ricardo Villalobos would blast during his sets. I love the vocal loop used in this track, it will never leave your head once you hear it.
Here you go my friends:
Sure, we all like the heavy stuff that makes you go wild at the club when you hear it. But there is nothing like dropping this kind of gem in peak of your set and mellow out the atmosphere before hitting ‘em hard again. First time I’ve heard of Joris Voorn was when he came out with ’The Deep‘. Needless to say, I was instantly hooked on his sound. It is very happy yet groovy. I am a fiend for that kind of melody! The track I’m uploading today has been out for a little while, but it was just re-released on Beatport today, so I figured I would let you hear it before purchasing it. Like I always say, I am doing this for promo purposes, and if you like the track you hear, you should support the artist and buy the record! It is only fair to them as they spend countless amounts of time making these tunes for us which we can’t help but adore and listen to. Cheers!
It is really hard for a remix to come out these days and do the justice to the original song it got the inspiration from. Popof’s remix of Tiga & Zyntherius’ ‘Sunglasses At Night’ is contrary to previous statement. This is the second time I’m featuring Popof’s work on my blog (click here to see his first entry), and both times he really did an excellent job. His Remix 2 was sitting on Beatport’s top 10 for a while now, so it is due that I post it here. A really nice upbeat tech house (what’s up with Beatport labeling it an ‘Electro House’ category?) with that catchy sample borrowed from the original tune. Really well done.

P.S. Just to give you guys heads up, I will be doing some interviews with DJs for my blog, as well as giving you another new desktop and nasty new tracks, so make sure you don’t keep your eyes away… You’re in for a treat.
- I know there are a lot of talented producers out there who read this blog, so I decided to do a news update to let you guys know about the wicked contest which ‘54 Music London’ is running. Here is the detailed explanation taken directly from their site:
“54 Music would like you to join us on our journey to becoming the most talked about, innovating, boundary pushing record label in the UK. Launching in March 2009, ready for the Miami Winter Music Conference (WMC), the label has one clear, concise objective – to search for the future heroes and heroines of tomorrow.”
The prizes are really cool, #1 being free trip to Winter Music Conference in ‘09 and having your track remixed by Audio Jack! Plus many, many other things. I have lots of respect for such new labels as they try to create something new and expand our music horizons, so make sure you hit ‘em up and enter the contest if you think you’ve got what it takes! More info can be found on their official website, or their Facebook group page.
- Speaking of Facebook groups, I have finaly decided to make a page for my blog, and it can be found by clicking here. Feel free to leave comments, upload videos and photos, and communicate with the rest of mnml community.
- One last thing, you folks remember Audible’s songs that I posted for promotion a little while ago? Turns out that he got enough buzz via Internet and bloggers that Tiesto played his ‘Moments’ release during a recent ‘In Search of Sunrise’ set. You can click here to view a video of this magical moment (no pun intended)! Best of luck Audible, wish you all the success!
Burak Sar, who goes under alias as ’SiS’, is a German DJ and fine producer. One of the most sought-after bangers of this summer is his ‘Trumpet’. I have to tell you, this track is right down my alley! As the title suggests, the song uses the beautiful melody of trumpet as the foundation for this techno wonder. Being of Balkan descent, I grew up in this kind of Folk music so of course I’m going to enjoy it. Hope you do as well.
