Monthly Archives: August 2008

The track that’s been getting heavy play lately. Progressive-tech/minimal. Been on Beatport’s Top 10 for a while. Produced by DJ Simi.

Simi – Errore Di Sistema (Original Mix)

Click Box’s big break came during Timewarp 2008. Formed by two Sao Paulo’s artists, Marco A.S. and Pedro Turra, it is safe to say that we are being hit with more and more of Brazilian talents rising in the house scene and in turn, doing extremely well. Fans are attracted to their experimental sound, mixture of techno and minimal, fueled by the catchy effects that subconsciously invade our attention. The whole minimal camp used and abused these tracks, and now it is your turn to do so too! ‘Espaco E Tempo’ just came out on August 13th, and includes four tracks, one of which I’m giving you today.

Click Box – Fun K Mouth

Since I’ve been doing so well lately and expanding my networks, I decided to do something different for a change and instead of posting new track today, I will grace you with a brand new wallpaper I designed of Ricardo Villalobos. I figured it is nearly impossible to find wallpapers of minimal artists, so I will try to design one every so often for personal use, which I will also share with you. Hope you guys are diggin’ the new header banner, also made by me. Cheers!

Swedish record label Nellie Recordings reached out to me earlier today, asking me if I would be interested in promoting their latest project, ‘Forever’ and ‘Moments’ by Audible. To set things straight, the last thing I would do is put up some music on here that I didn’t like. Which is to say that I rather did enjoy Audible’s songs. Here’s a quick fact about me: Once upon a time, I was into trance. A lot. Hooked on it. It was all I iistened to. Then I moved onto progressive house. Deep house. Then came tech. Minimal. What I’m trying to get across is that I always appreciated anything that’s good. To me, good equals something that makes you feel a certain way… brings out an emotion out of you. Whether it makes you jump and scream, or makes you want to lay down, close your eyes and escape into serenity of your own thoughts. This is the beauty and true power of music. Of all genres. Which is why I am posting today these 2 wonderful pieces. I can see alikes of Tiesto (who, by the way, gave positive feedback on these songs, as well as Emilio Fernandez, Chriss Ortega, Kaskade, Dave Cortex, among others) and Armin Van Buuren dropping these gems in middle of their sets and have the club go bananaz! (you’re welcome Benny ;) ) Guitar strings and melody in ‘Moments’ put the world on hold, as you evoke into real state of trance, shifted away to an island that you always dreamed about. ‘Forever’ is more progressive tune out of the two, but just as well crafted and produced — little less melody, but more club-friendly. Hope you guys enjoy these previews, and make sure to show your support by purchasing them on Beatport on September 15th.

Dubfire has been single-handedly destroying the techno scene for a while now. With a remix after remix that generate huge buzz, Ali’s reputation as a techno and minimal producer grew immensely. I had the pleasure of seeing him perform live at the Detroit Electronic Music Festival 2008 back in May, and let me tell you, it was by far one of the greatest techno sets Detroiters have heard in a long, long time. It took everyone by surprise. I bet I wasn’t the only one who thought that the highlight of the night was when he dropped his own rework version of Richie Hawtin’s ’Spastik’ and the whole place erupted into cheers and applause. Talk about goosebumps. You could just feel the energy flowing through your body. Absolutely surreal. To put icing on the cake, Richie himself was hanging out in the DJ booth behind Ali when this all happened. Picture-perfect moment. The track I’m presenting you with today has been doing heavy damage ever since Winter Music Conference. One word to describe it: godly.

Radio Slave feat. Danton Eeprom – Grindhouse (Dubfire Terror Planet Mix)

For Marcel Dettmann, techno depicts a determination of both his life and music. Dettmann’s persistent reply to inquiries on his DJ-style – no doubts about its foundational and just natural club-oriented functionality – simply and sparsely reads “dark” and “the dark side”. At a closer look this brings to light a certain fascination in techno: a futuristic medium inherently pointing towards the new and unseen, unexplored and unknown, undefined and unexpected. ‘Quicksand’ is the perfect example. Wicked minimal work that will have you feeling as if you’re being sucked into quicksand indeed.

The name may not sound familiar, but Windsor’s own Justin James is on a mission: he is bound to make some serious waves sooner than later. I can personally testify to his growth as a producer and a writer, his latest productions are coming along very nicely. While maintaining his unique techy sound, Generation Recording’s Julien Loreto is thrown in the mix to kick some minimal flavour to the release (Click here to preview or purchase it on Beatport). Alongside his pal and Definitive-signee Matt Herdman, Justin hosts a monthly residency entitled ‘Vice’ at Windsor’s only world class nightclub, the Boom Boom Room. I wish him all the best, and I am really looking forward to hearing the future sound of Windsor’s own array of talents. Enjoy folks!

When it comes to Toronto’s party life, there is no denying that Manzone & Strong have been holding the scene on lock for a while. With residency at one of the world’s top class nightclubs, ‘The Guvernment‘, and regular appearances at ‘This is London’ and ‘Comfort Zone’, they have established themselves as the kings of the dark and grimy style which penetrates those loud-ass TO speakers every weekend. Their sound could be interperted as a mix of minimal techno, tech, and progressive. To sum it up, basically: It’s fucking insane. Posted today is their newest live set from one of the boat cruises they did recently. Insane, I tell ya. By the way, CD is all cut-up and ready to burn at 320kbps. What more could you ask for? :)
