Time to expand your musical horizons! I haven’t done one of ‘Sunday’s Classic Track’ updates in a while so I’m long overdue to hit you with another classic. ‘Dump Truck’, by Cobblestone Jazz, is an absolute beauty of a work. Talk about talent and creativity. Timing and creating the right atmosphere is what matters with this kind of minimal jazzy melody. I can see it doing damage at festivals, street parades (speaking of which, here’s a video of Sven Vath playing it live at Street Parade 2006), big outside gatherings and events of such nature. I find it soothing even for personal enjoyment while sitting and relaxing. Voila!

Cobblestone Jazz – Dump Truck

P.S. For those wondering how the party I threw yesterday went, let me tell you, it was beyond successful! We had a great turn-out, place was packed, we had 4 killers set featuring Josh Karmin, Anas Attia, Laki (from Muke & Laki) and myself. I can’t describe how well everything well, and it was a pleasure hosting my friends from Toronto! See you guys back here soon. Here are some photos from last night! I’ll post some videos too when I get my hands on them.

First time I got into Claude VonStroke’s production was when I heard ‘Who’s afraid of Detroit’ (by the way this video really captures Detroit’s grimmy and dark techno scene). I went from thinking to myself “What the fuck” to absolutely adoring the minimal techy San Francisco vibe in a matter of few listens; it’s the kind of song that grows on you. This tells you all about Claude’s style in general. ‘Scarlet Macaw’ is no exception. First time I listened to it I can’t say I enjoyed the track much, but after a few repeats, I can see where it fits into the music world today. Reminds me of the ambient tech that Dubfire was spinnin’ lately like it’s going out of style. This genre is all about playing it at the right time, wicked for opening sets and such. Definitely worth checking it out.

Sergio Munoz a.k.a. ‘Delete’ has done a wonderful job of establishing himself in the ever-evolving techno community. At the tender age of 22, this rising Venezuelan producer/DJ has been cookin’ up some wicked minimal techno tunes for quite some time now (just check his Beatport page). You all should be familiar with Johnny D’s craftwork, and this remix of ‘Soleil’ by Delete absolutely puts the track on whole new level above. Simple usage of vocals provided by Sergio works wonders, and the production is top notch as always. I can’t wait to blast this gem live on the 26th. Two thumbs up.

Johnny D – Soleil (Delete Vocal Remix)

As I am preparing for yet another party event which I will be hosting/DJing, I was on a mission to find the baddest and meanest minimal/techno tracks that I could get my hands on. This is good news for you guys, because I am now armed to the teeth with new material that will have you itching for more. I will start things off with Popof’s remix of ‘Morumbi’. This shit will absolutely blow away any dancefloor and set the party on the right track. We’re just getting things started around here… and that’s a good thing. :)

Tocadisco – Morumbi (Popof Remix)

I don’t think my life could possibly get any busier even if I wanted it to. I’ve been working well over full-time hours in last few weeks, on top of that I’ve been managing my personal side of things, then on top of that organizing party events in my city, managing my basketball league, working second job, trying to find time to enjoy myself, and at the end of the day, I often find myself passing right out at night instead of digging up some time to come online, let alone update the blog. For this I apologize, but don’t think I will let it go by without giving you guys a treat and show you that I appreciate your constant support! ;)

Our good friends at Cocoon Records have released their latest compilation entitled ‘H’, which is packed with 12 tracks that will absolutely blow you away, no matter the style you’re into. It covers everything from deep minimal, to tech house, so whatever your flavor is, I should have you covered! Enjoy my friends, and here’s to hoping that I will find a little more of balance in my life, with time-management anyway, so I can come back to the swing of things on here like I used to. Take care and be safe.

P.S. I would like to ask you all for a little favour. I entered this contest for fun, and I would like to see where I could get if all of you voted for me once a day. Click here to vote! (for those who aren’t familiar with my name yet, it’s ‘Zoran Dakovic’) Make sure to check your e-mail after you submit your vote to confirm the ballot. As you can see, the guy I’m against has been advertising for a while, therefore I’d like to give him some competition… ;) Thank you my friends! Peace & Love, and before all, keep it ‘mnml’!

[UPDATE: July-22-2008. I won that contest that I asked you guys to vote for me! Thank you so much for your support! You people are great!]

For those dedicated readers who have been in tune with minimal scene for a while, you guys should have already realized that all tracks I post on my blog have either been out for a little while, or they’re older hits, thus labelling them ‘classics’. The reason why I don’t post brand new releases on my blog is because I want to give the artist a chance to distribute it legally, for a period of time, before it gets ’ripped’ online through various web groups and sites, and as such, spread without giving any credit back to the person who spent their time and effort making it. What really bugs me even more is when you have such incredible and powerful releases like the two I’m mentioning today, and they get around without the artist being paid their dues. That is why instead of posting the link to download them, I will simply link you to the site where you can legally purchase ‘em.

Heartthrob // Dear Painter, Paint Me

If minimal was a form of painting, then Heartthrob’s latest project would be right up there with Leonardo Da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa”. A composition like this comes once in a long time, and arguably, it is one of the most compelling albums to come out this year. Period. It is wonderfully crafted and takes you through a range of feelings. The best way to describe it would be; ‘an arrangment of emotionally-charged music that collectively forms a whirlwind experience’. There is no reason why you shouldn’t pick up this 2-years-in-the-making release and show your support. Click here to read Heartthrob’s interview and also purchase the mp3s.

Carlo LioProject White Rabbit

Carlo Lio is a veteran of Toronto’s club scene. With regular shows in some of the sketchiest clubs in the area, he has established quite a reputation for himself and has respect from many who had the opportunity to see him perform. “Project White Rabbit” is his latest recording, and let me tell you, it is absolutely mind-fucking-blowing. It defines the afterhours scene in lovely Toronto, letter by letter, sound by sound. The name comes from the alias given by a newspaper, after one of the most-known afterhours clubs, ’Comfort Zone’, got busted few months ago. Buy it on Beatport!

Is it just me or has minimal techno scene been doing some serious damage lately? Long gone are the days of commercial electro tunes occupying the top 10 ranks on Beatport. For a change, we have Koen Groeneveld’s ”Wake Turbulence” at the very top spot, which is to say people have been adapting to what we have all grown accustomed to with this blog.

Koen Groeneveld – Wake Turbulence (Original Mix)

Ambivalent’s ”R U OK” is one of those songs that you hear at the club and go home wondering what the hell it was. Out of all the remixes, I enjoy ’Kasper is OK’ remix the most. The vocals are slowed down and the track itself is wonderful for blending and mixing in with other material. Very laidback, with that monstrous bassline and trippy lyrics, I can promise it will draw you in. Brilliance of work.
